Welcome to Èze Village

The Eagle's Nest of the French Riviera

Discover the Medieval Charm

Perched 427 meters above the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, Èze is a picturesque medieval village that captures the essence of the French Riviera. Located between Nice and Monaco, this enchanting commune offers breathtaking panoramic views and a journey through centuries of history.

Rich History

The area surrounding Èze was first populated around 200 BC. Throughout its history, the village has been occupied by Romans, Moors, and various European powers. In 1388, it fell under the jurisdiction of the House of Savoy, who fortified it due to its strategic location near Nice.

The village's turbulent past includes seizures by French and Turkish troops in 1543, and the destruction of its walls by Louis XIV in 1706. Finally, in April 1860, the people of Èze unanimously voted to become part of France.

The village's motto "Isis Moriendo Renascor" (In death I am Reborn) and its emblem of a phoenix perched on a bone reflect its resilient spirit through centuries of change.

A Living Museum

Often called a "museum village," Èze charms visitors with its narrow cobblestone streets, art galleries, boutique shops, and exquisite restaurants. The medieval architecture has been beautifully preserved, creating an authentic atmosphere that transports visitors back in time.

The oldest building in the village is the Chapelle de la Sainte Croix, dating back to 1306. The Notre Dame de l'Assomption church, built in 1764, stands prominently and can be seen from great distances due to the village's elevated position.

Walt Disney visited Èze in 1956 and was so enchanted that he suggested transforming the Château de la Chèvre d'Or into a hotel, helping establish it as one of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux properties.
